Mission HealthCare

  • "He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything" – Arabic proverb
  • India has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence. However, various eye opening data from NFHS clearly indicate that access to healthcare still remains a challenge.
  • While the health statistics of rural India continue to be poor, the health status and access to health for the poor in urban slum dwellers has surfaced to be equally deplorable and have less than 4% of government primary healthcare facilities.
  • Urban slum dwellers suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons –first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for underprivileged, which is a desperate need, thus remains unaddressed.
  • The need of the hour is thus a two pronged approach – first to bring quality healthcare services to doorsteps of the needy and second to promote healthcare awareness and contemporary healthcare seeking behavior among the underprivileged.
  • In such a scenario a mobile healthcare services delivery system is the most practical mechanism. And in subscription to this view, RAHI Education and Charitable Trust has initiated the RAHI on Wheels programme. This is a unique mobile hospital programme that seeks to address problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of primary healthcare with a special focus on children and women, in urban slums and remote rural areas.
  • The RAHI Education and Charitable Trust on Wheels programme has so far provided free healthcare services to more than 15,41,000 children and families.

Events & Activities

Washing hands and keeping away from diseases

Hand washing is an important part of our daily activities. One should wash hands before and after eating and keep hands clean to avoid a number of diseases as our hands carry dirt and bacteria from different places. It is important to teach children the benefits of hand washing at a young age so that it does not hamper their health and healthy habits can be inculcated. We addressed the children about hand washing and why is it important for good health. Hand washing kits were also distributed to the children and the children were also given a demo of how to wash hands properly.

Awareness on skin diseases and Water borne diseases

As the monsoon sets in it is very important for people to take preventive measures against a number of diseases which spread due to stagnation of water etc. People in urban slums and rural areas are most affected by these diseases because they lack awareness and take little or no preventive measures. We conducted an awareness session for the people living in the urban slums of Ahmadabad. The people were sensitized about the measures to be taken in cases of diarrhea and other skin diseases. The volunteers and doctors also spoke about the harms of letting dirty water stand in pools and drains and the steps to be taken in case of such situations.
